On Top of the World

I am wishing that I was feeling on top of the world right now. This week has been one of those low energy, but busy weeks. I have a ton going on, but have no energy to do any of the many things I need to be doing. Thinking it was my diet I've been working on what I eat through out the day, but that's not doing much, sleeping in a little more in the mornings and not working out seems to be only making matters worse. Not having much to do at work doesn't help me wake up, so the many things needed to be done after work don't seem to get done.

It is amazing what a little exercise can do for your whole day. Whether it's yoga, running, swimming, going for a walk, or a few push ups, all that you can do can help increase productivity and energy through the day. So, when I have weeks like this, it makes me really enjoy those weeks where I do have endless amounts of energy, and time to accomplish everything.

Even in the scriptures, as well as in the temple I have noticed quite a bit about our health, and keeping our bodies and minds active, and choosing our foods wisely, and that we be healthy, I can really a test to that. We need to keep our minds active, not just by doing Sudoku all day, but by exerciseing our bodies, and doing different things through our work outs, as well as learning new things. My grandpa Newton is an amazing example of that. He was a Pediatrition for his profession, now retired. He still to this day attends classes at the University of Utah with a big group of his buddies, and they take random classes, study and learn through out the year. His mind is sharp, and he is very smart. Not only is he brilliant, but he is a really good tennis player. This weekend he and my grandma both 87 years old going down to St. George to compete in the Senior Games, last year he brought home both Gold and Silver, this year he will probably do the same. I can tell you that from being in their home, and watching them over the years that they eat chocolate or sugar every now and again, but they eat a well balanced diet a variety of foods, and both get their exercise in. I am amazed at their health, and I can tell you it's not from following a fad diet, from getting surgeries, or anything drastic like that. It is simply by living well.

I challenge myself as well as you to try living well. To keep your minds sharp, go out read a book, while your at it hop on a bike or go swim some laps it will bring you so much energy, and you will feel so good. I love my body and I am so glad that I can have these kinds of crappy days so that I can realize how good I do have it.

100 Push Up Challenge...

Yup, you read that correctly. 100 Push Ups!!

A few weeks ago in church the men were challenged to do this challenge called the 100 Push Up Challenge. They whole thing is that by the 6th week on the last day you should be able to do all 100.

Nathan wanted to get me in on it, of coarse it wasn't that hard, but I agreed to do it. He explained that you do 4 sets then the 5th set is as many as you can do, and on the sheet of paper the 5th set had numbers like 3 min or 8 min, so we were thinking that was as many as you could do in 3 minutes and so on.

So, that's what we have been doing, and we added some sit-ups and such in with it and it's working out great. We do it 3 times a week, but this week has been harder to do together because of tests and such, but we will be better at getting it done together. Yesterday morning Nathan told me he had looked up on the website the whole challenge to read more about it. Come to find out we've been doing the last set wrong!! It's not minutes its minimum. So it's telling us to do as many as we can but you have to do at least 3 or 8 or whatever the number is on there.

Last week when we were doing the challenge we were going for I think it was 7 minutes, and I did over 100 push ups (girl push ups mind you), can I tell you how much that hurt!! Oh man, my arms did burn! Now finding out that I didn't have to do that ugh, I would not have had to go through all that pain ha ha. Oh, well. It's a great challenge, and both Nathan are seeing great results from this challenge. I am now wishing I had taken before pictures and do after pictures.

I am just so amazed at how strong and wonderful our bodies are, and how quick they can recover, and strengthen itself. I am so thankful for my health and the strength and endurance I have, I know I take it for granted way too much, I am going to try hard to not, and I challenge you all to take better care of your body and enjoy what it gives you.

Weekend Warriors

This last weekend my Prince Charming and I spent our Saturday going to different fairs. To start off our morning the University Student Apartment Association put on a Block Party, they had a bunch of difference venders, as well as cottonw candy, pop corn and blow up toys. They mostly cater to those with small children, but since we don't have one we went to eat their pizza.

Next on the list we went up on campus there was a Health and Wellness fair put on by the University of Utah Hospital and the College of Health. It was not too busy, we came home with a lot of free stuff. While we were there we were able to see our heart rythms, (I found out that Nathan does have a heart!), we got out Blood Pressure tested as well as our Glucose Levels. Oddly enough Nathan's glucose level was really really low, and mine was kind of high, and he had eaten more sugar than I had. But it's another thing he can brag about beating me, he has better glucose levels :).. We also got our body fat tested, mine was a tiny bit lower than his, he is really healthy and I am under for girls. It was fun going around to different booths to learn about different health topics. There was a womens tent and they gave out free prenatal vitamins and told me I should be taking them not matter what because it's good for me, so since they were free, I will take them up on that. We had a lot of fun.

After some relaxing in the after noon, and getting our energy up for the biggest fair of the day we headed to the Utah State Fair with Dash and Zoe Porter and Nathan's Brother Sean and his date Tera. We had a lot of fun looking at all the fat animals, admiring how the sheep didn't have tails, trying not to step in the cow pies, and watching all the interesting people that have come from many places to be at the fair. We ate fried foods, drank lemonade and watched a hypnotist that seemed to have lasted forever. We saw lions, and tigers, no bears, but a monkey and horses too. Not only that but we saw some sea lions that knew how to pose in front of a camera. It was quite the event, a lot to take in, but one thing I will say is that they know you want to try their game or eat their food so they charge an arm and a leg for everything there. I had fun, it was my first time to a state fair, and I surely enjoyed the company.

We had a great weekend, it was hard to come back to real life yesterday, work was hard and I have a test this week so reality hit me hard yesterday morning. It makes me more excited for this upcoming weekend and the adventures that lie ahead. :D

Game Time

This last weekend our Stake put together a Back to School dinner and 5k. Friday night was the dinner, sponsered by Citrus Grill. The dinner is usually done by Cafe Rio, but Citrus Grill was still really yummy. They did a drawing for Miche purses, they are really nice, and really cute purses, and I was one of the lucky few that actually won one of them. It was really funny because we kept kinda chanting my number and the second to last bad the guy calling the numbers just looked at me like 'are you kidding me', and called out my number I was probably the most excited person there. Thanks to Nathan for giving me his number :)

There were kids activities which included nachos, cottoncandy, and face painting. The funniest thing was that the cottoncandy stuck to the kids faces, and they  it all the way up both cheeks, it was pink and blue, but still wanted their faces painted, I have no idea how they would have painted her face it would have had to have gone over all the sugar. It was just so cute. It was a great opportunity to get to know our neighbors that came, that aren't members. It's so fun to have these activites to meet so many new people, and to see our friends.

Nate and Linn <3
Saturday morning at 8am we had our Stake 5k. It's free and just for fun. We headed out early into the cold morning and set off on our run. There were a lot of people from our ward there, both helping and running. It's so cool there is a stroller category to encourage you to bring your kids, and for those who do have kids to participate. The run was a lot of fun, I pushed myself really hard, I was hoping to get a personal record, but there were a bunch of hills and turns in it that slowed all the runners down.

Not sure what I'm doing with my face
In the end it was a successful race. Nathan ran it with me, so did our friends Dash and Zoe Porter, as well as Amber Pederson and Issac (she won 3rd in the stroller division :P). We all had fun and enjoyed our dinner at Cafe Rio that night. Dash won I think 3rd in Mens and I won 2nd in Womens Overall so for part of our reward we got gift certificate to Cafe Rio. It sure was a great morning! Overall a great weekend.

Bear Lake Adventure

Just before school started we had the opportunity to go to Bear Lake with our ward. Our bishop has a beautiful cabin up there on beach front property. With Nathan's calling as Executive Secritary, which is part of the bishpbric, we were invited with the other couples in the bishopbric to stay Friday night to Saturday. That Friday I got off work early and we headed up, took our time driving through Wyoming, who knew that was such a senic drive ;).. When we got to the cabin in the early evening, it was so pretty and a little chilly too. It was perfect and the cabin was huge! We were the first to arrive, so we got a personal tour from our Bishop. He told us all about the sentimental pictures around the cabin, and how each part of the cabin was designed. It was just beautiful, and it felt really homey. They did a great job in building and decorating the cabin to feel welcoming.

As the night drew on we enoyed a yummy dinner with fellow ward members, and enjoyed a fire outside by the lake. The setting was just perfect. We were in great company and had a wonderful time, even after the fire the boys played a few rounds of pool inside. It sure was a perfect way to end the summer, as it was the last weekend before school started.
Early Saturday morning Nathan left to be a good citizen a volunteer at a Make A Wish event, to raise money for cute children with cancer, to make their wishes come true. Just a little plug on that, I think it's a great opportunity to support sucha great cause. I sure didn't want him to go, but he has such a great time volunteering for them, and being a provider and making things happen for a lot of young children.

Owen and Linn
After Nathan left I went for a beautiful run, I was able to run a long the lake and watch the sun rise, it was such a beautiful sight. Nature around us it just to magical, I always find it so refreshing to be out and enjoy our surroundings. With the afternoon coming on, we headed out to the water where Darci McMickle from the ward swam with me, she was so patient with me it was just so hard to get in such cold water. I was being a baby, but after about 30 min of trying I finally jumped in, and enjoyed the water the rest of the day.
We had two boats up there, and I spend pretty much the entire afternoon on the Knotts boat, we tubed, and wake boarded. It was perfect. The weather was warm, and the water was great, it was really choppy but so fun. For lunch I ran up to the cabin to grab a sandwich before heading back out to the water, and on my way I stopped to play with Owen Orrock (In photo) and Aria Preece, two cute kids from our ward that were enjoying the playground. It's so fun to see the young kids having as much fun as the adults :)

Bear Lake was just beautiful and it was a perfect end to a great summer. Thanks to our Bishop and his hospitality. We had a blast!

Wandering Dreams..

Last night, I went to bed reltively early, we got up at 5 am to go to the Temple together. Aw. It was fun, and so neat to do sealings together. Anyways... When we woke up this morning Nathan asked me if I remembered what I said to him last night when he came into bed. Of coarse I didn't I was asleep. Apparently I told him "I pick you, I want you. Only you." Something to that effect.

As the day has gone on I've been thinking about that, and I do remember my dream last night that I would have said that.

In my dream, we were in a defferent place, not in Utah, not in our same apartment, it was all screwy. Anyways, in the dream I had to pick either him or someother guy. At the time, in the dream, Nathan and I were married but for some odd dreamly reason I had to pick between my husband and some other guy, of coarse they don't let you see the face in the dream, but that doesn't matter. The guy was a jerk, and the whole time in my dream that I was arround this other person I was just constantly thinking about Nathan and how I wanted to tell him that I wanted to be his. This is where my sleep talking comes in... In my dream I had searched hard to find him and tell him I was his, and that I wanted to be with him and only him. I found him eating at some restraunt/hair salon place (yes this is a dream anything can happen right), and I grabbed him kissed him and told him that I picked him. I have not yet told this dream to Nathan, but as the day has progressed to now, and events have happened, I find it interesting what our mind thinks up and the kinds of dreams we do have.

I know pretty much all of you have seen the movie Inception and how they manipulate our dreams, often times I have wondered if my dreams really are my thoughts, or if someone put those thoughts in my mind with out me realizing and this is the outcome and leaving me thinking back on it all day. Dreams are amazing, and I love day dreaming where I wish things would happen that I know never will, but it gives me a chance to see myself as a winner and having accomplished things and to allow myself to build confidance in myself and the things I do.

What do your dreams say about you? Are there really hidden meanings behind them? Was my dream telling me that I need to let Nathan know that he is the one I picked and that I want to hold onto him forever?? If so, thats not biggie, but is there something else. All of this has just left me thinking today.. <3

World's

Greatest Husbands... Thats what the posters said on Saturday Morning. Amber Pederson, Zoe Porter and I set our early in the cold morning to run our first 1/2 marathon, not only was it Amber's first 1/2, but it was her first race ever!!! Wow!

We did the Salt Lake 1/2 Marathon, it was a lot of fun. We ran from Mountian Dell Golf Course up the canyon behind it to the top of Emigration and finished the last 8 miles down Emigration Canyon into Research Park, where we had a glorious finish.

The best part of the whole thing for me, besides finishing and doing it with friends was having Nathan on the side lines cheering me on with posters that said 'I love you Linn' and 'You did it'....Why do I care so much you ask?? Because Racing is my life, it's who I am, and he had not seen me race before, and it just meant the world to me having him there. Thank you Prince Charming for being there for me!!

Thank you to Amber and Zoe, as well as Amanda and Kelsie for getting me to train you guys for the race. :)
